2018 Property Taxes Due July 4

Reminder that property taxes are due by July 4. 

You can pay in person at 136 Spruce Avenue, online through your bank, or by mailing a cheque (ensure we receive the cheque before July 4 to avoid the penalty, note that post marks will not be accepted as proof of payment date). 

Make sure to claim your Home Owner Grant, even if you cannot fully pay your taxes, by July 4 as after this date a 10% penalty will be added to all unpaid taxes from the current year.

This is to advise that the Pedestrian Crosswalk on Highway #43 near Aspen Drive has been closed until construction of the new pedestrian controls for the Middletown Highway 3/43 Intersection Improvements Project are completed.

Survey on the recreational use and sale of cannabis

The District of Sparwood is seeking residents input into the recreational use and sale of cannabis in Sparwood.  The information you provide will help Council determine the extent to which the District will regulate the location of retail stores (including setting distance requirements between cannabis retail stores and schools, daycares and other land uses); personal cultivation; commercial production; consumption on municipal property and public places; and whether to impose security requirements and additional restrictions on the hours of operation.

Sprinkling Regulations

A reminder that the District of Sparwood sprinkling regulations are in effect from June 1 through September 30 each year to promote water conservation.

Request for Proposals: Livability Study

The District of Sparwood is seeking proposals from qualified professionals to undertake a Livability Study for the municipality. Proponents are expected to demonstrate experience in developing and analyzing quality of life indicators, engaging with communities, and studying and defining community well-being, recognizing the importance of the natural environment in physical/mental health outcomes.

Victoria Day Garbage Schedule Change

Please note that there will be NO GARBAGE PICKUP on the VICTORIA DAY STATUTORY HOLIDAY, Monday MAY 21st, 2018. 

Garbage that is normally picked up on the Monday will be picked up on Tuesday MAY 22nd, 2018.

The District of Sparwood recognizes the contribution that seniors make to our community. Those Sparwood seniors who have, or will, reach the age of 75 years this year are invited to meet with Mayor McDougall and members of Council to sign the “Senior’s Birthday Book”.

Contractors with proven experience and expertise with earthworks, construction and utilities installation are invited to submit tenders. The outdoor surface is designed as a multi-use surface allowing for basketball, tennis, pickle ball and will also be able to be converted into an ice surface in the winter months.

Due to low snow conditions, the toboggan hill is currently closed for the season We thank you for your understanding and hope to see you out enjoying the hill again next winter!

Middletown Crossing Construction Beginning

Construction for the Middletown Crossing project will begin in April. Projex, the firm awarded the contract for the project, have finished the bulk of their construction equipment mobilization and are gearing up to begin earthworks on the southwest portion of the site in April. It is anticipated that the earthworks for the southwest portion will be finished by the end of April.
