50th Anniversary of the Balmer North Explosion

April 3rd, 2017 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Balmer North mine explosion

Fifteen men lost their lives, resulting in an incredible impact on many communities in our area. This tragedy left families without sons, brothers, fathers, uncles and forever changed our small communities.

The Balmer North Committee would like to invite everyone to the Unveiling of the Bronze Miner Statue and premiere of the documentary film in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Balmer North Explosion.

April 3, 2017 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Titan Park, 141 Aspen Drive, Sparwood BC

Please dress for the weather and bring a lawn chair if desired as there is only limited seating for seniors.

The memorial wall with the names of 181 miners will be unveiled on the Workers Day of Mourning on April 28th at 12:00 noon. A sample of what the wall will look like will be on site at the ceremony for viewing.

There will also be a showing of the documentary film at the Vogue Theatre in Fernie on April 20th and at Lilac Terrace (date TBD).

Please join us in honouring the memory of those who lost their lives mining coal in the Sparwood and Elkford area mines.
