WildSafe BC, Sparwood Trails Alliance and Sparwood Mountain Bike will be co-hosting a Bear Awareness Workshop to take place in Sparwood on August 6th from 6 to 7 pm at the Sparwood Golf Course.
Residents, visitors and outdoor enthusiasts are invited to attend the free workshop and learn how to respond to wildlife encounters and get hands on experience using inert bear spray – which is like real bear spray but without the sting of pepper.
“Having bear spray accessible and knowing how to use it will give you the confidence to do the right thing - stay calm, assess the situation and respond accordingly and to not give in to the instinct to run, which can trigger the chase instinct. Like wearing your seat belt, if used properly, bear spray could help save your life,” says Kathy Murray, Wildsafe BC Community Coordinator.
The safest wildlife encounter is one prevented.
This FREE workshop is open to the entire community.
