    Parent & Tot - Aquatots Swim Lessons
    Ages 4 - 36 months. This class combines Red Cross Starfish, Duck, and Sea Turtle. Designed to have parents in the water with their child. Parents learn to teach their child about the water through play and imitation.

    Preschool Swim Lessons
    5 Levels for children 3 - 6 years old. Progressive lessons based on the successful completion of all performance criteria. Lessons are engaging and fun, through songs and activities. 

    Swim Kids Level 1 - 10
    10 Level Program for children ages 6 + based on progression of skills and knowledge. Children learn to swim, be fit, and stay safe in a fun environment that promotes achieving a personal best and celebrates personal success.

    Junior Lifeguard
    For ages 8 - 12 years and offers a unique aquatic alternative for those kids who really love the water. Participants work through the Canadian Swim Patrol Program (CSP) three level Pre-Bronze award program. 


    Semi-Private Lessons
    Book a private lesson for 2 or more at a time that fits into their busy schedule. You can book private lessons one lesson at a time or in a set of 5 lessons. 

    Private Lessons 
    We offer private lessons for any age. Is your child struggling to complete a certain skill in public lessons? If public lessons do not fit your schedule, then private lessons may be the way to go! Sign up for 1 lesson or a set of 5.

    Private Swim Lessons: $22.50/half hour lesson or $99.00 for 5 half hour lessons


    Road to Lifeguard Certification
    Are you interested in becoming a Lifeguard? The District of Sparwood offers everything you need to become a certified Lifeguard / Instructor.

    Bronze Star
    This is a Pre-Bronze Medallion training program and excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. In Bronze Star participants develop problem solving and decision making skills as individuals and as partners. They develop water smart confidence and basic lifesaving skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard. Pocket mask required. Prerequisites: Ability to swim 400 m, Recommended 12 yrs +

    Bronze Medallion
    Teaches an understanding of lifesaving principles. Rescuers deal with conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Participants also develop stroke efficiency and endurance in timed swims. Includes CPR-A. Pocket mask required. Prerequisite: Bronze Star or 13 years of age or older

    Bronze Cross
    This award is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safe supervision. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs, including National Lifeguard Service (NLS). Includes CPR-C. Pocket mask required. Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion

    National Lifeguard Pool Certification
    National Lifeguard is Canada’s only nationally recognized lifeguard certification program. National Lifeguard is a legal certificate for lifeguarding throughout the country. Prerequisites: Minimum 16 years of age. Bronze Cross certification and Standard First Aid certification (need not be current).

    Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
    This course prepares candidates to instruct the Red Cross Swim programs. Candidates focus on strategies to introduce and develop fitness activities, skills, water safety and swimming skills in the Red Cross Swim Preschool, Red Cross Swim Kids, Red Cross Swim @ School, Red Cross Swim @ Camp, Red Cross Swim for Adults & Teens and Red Cross Swim Adapted programs. Prerequisite: 15 years or older, ability to perform Red Cross Swim Kids 10 strokes and skills, Emergency First Aid or equivalent (need not be current).

    CPR-B & CRP-C
    CPR-B provides training for the non-professional rescuer and CPR-C is the recognized course for health care professionals and lifeguards.

    Standard First Aid
    Trains rescuers in the skills and knowledge needed to assess and provide basic life support to patients with airway, breathing, or circulatory emergencies.

    Learning Tree Preschool
    A drop off program for preschoolers to develop their five selves: social, emotional, gross motor, fine motor, and intellectual development. More information here

    An active outing for children 0 - 5 years. Ride on toys, push/pull toys, slides and climbers. Parents are required to supervise their children and help with clean-up of mats/equipment. Please bring your own water to drink. Thursdays 11:00 - 11:45 am in the Leisure Centre Hall.

    Parent & Tot Funtimes
    Come out with your tot and enjoy a class involving crafts, songs, parent discussions, and play time for kids! Tuesdays 9:30 am - 12:00 pm iin the Leisure Centre Hall. 

    Parent & Tot Skate
    Unsupervised recreation times. Users are encouraged to wear safety equipment. Mondays 11:00 am - 12:00 pm and Wednesday 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. 

    Outdoor Adventures
    Roam the great outdoors for age 2 - 5, adult supervision is required! Fridays 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. More information in the Leisure Guide

    Rhythmic Gymnastics
    Sport that combines expressive movement with colourful apparatus. Classes for ages 3 - 5 years, 5 - 8 years, and 9 - 12 years. More information in the Leisure Guide

    Youth Spin & Sculpt
    Intense cardio spin class for ages 10 -12 years old. More information in the Leisure Guide

    Babysitter Training
    This Red Cross certified program covers child care, safety, behaviour, healthcare and emergency procedures. For ages 11+. Registration includes the Red Cross Babysitter Child Care manual.
    Those successfully completing the course will receive a Red Cross Certificate. More information in the Leisure Guide

    Home Alone Safety for Kids
    A comprehensive safety program that prepares children to stay home alone. The program covers: “Are you ready to be home alone?”, “Arriving home safely”, “Staying home alone safely”, and “Basic First Aid”. For ages 9+. More information in the Leisure Guide

    Interested in taking Piano Lessons? 30 minutes sessions between 3:30 & 6:30 pm. Instructor Nicole has Grade Ten in Royal Conservatory and has taught piano lessons for 10+ years. More information in the Leisure Guide

    YAS is all about youth-directed, community-supported programs and events for Sparwood teens aged 12 to 18. A schedule of programs and events is available in our Leisure Guide:

    In Sparks, girls age 5 & 6 are encouraged to try a bit of everything and begin discovering their individual skills, talents and interests.

    The Brownies program is all about encouraging girls age 7 & 8 to develop their own identity and positive relationships with others.

    In Guides, girls age 9 - 11 strengthen their leadership skills by taking the lead in activities, learning to organize events and teaching each other new skills, all while having fun with their peers.

    The Pathfinder program allows girls age 12 - 14 to take the lead and become active in the causes they believe in. In Pathfinders, girls will start to develop their independence while also learning the value of teamwork. Find out more at

    Young Canadians age 12 to 18 can participate in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities and learn valuable life and work skills such as teamwork, leadership and citizenship.
