The Green Bins located at the Transfer Station are part of the Recycle BC Program. The green bins accept everything that goes into the yellow bins, plus an additional 76 items! In addition, the RDEK gets paid per tonne of recycling collected in these bins, saving taxpayer dollars. Alternatively, the RDEK is charged for every tonne of recycling placed in the yellow bins.

To find out what is accepted in the green bins, view www.sparwood.ca/recycling

Mosquitoes

To report instances of nuisance mosquitoes, please fill out the online form at www.sparwood.ca/mosquito or contact the Engineering Department at sparwood@sparwood.ca, or call 250.425.6271. Are Your House Numbers Visible from the Street?

Take a look at your house from the street at night to see if you can clearly identify your house numbers.  Perhaps shrubs or trees are blocking visibility, or the numbers are faded, or too small?  Your house numbers should be visible from 150’ at all angles.

In every emergency response time is critical; seconds lost can mean the difference of life and death.  If your home or business is set back from the street, post your address number at the entrance to your driveway.

Not only is this essential for fire, police or ambulance to find your home, it is also the law under the Community Standards Bylaw.

Pick Your Fruit Trees

It is time to pick the fruit off your trees and clean up all the windfalls as bears are starting to come into the community, as they are looking for easy food sources to bulk up before hibernation.

Keeping garbage stored indoors until collection day, cleaning up fruit trees and securing wildlife attractants is the best way to keep people safe and avoid unnecessary killing of bears that encounter people.

Compost Sites

Residents are reminded that anyone using the compost sites located in lower Sparwood, near the Fire Hall at the end of Engelmann Spruce Drive, and in Sparwood Heights, next to the ball fields, they are for the disposal of organics including the grass on your lawn, tree leaves, plant roots, stems, blooms and leaves from your garden flowers, fruit or vegetable plantings.

Household garbage, recyclables, branches and trees, old concrete and construction material should be taken to the Transfer Station.
