BC Wildfire Services Reminds Residents About Property Preparedness

As BC Wildfire crews continue to undertake planning and preparedness throughout the community today, many residents have asked what they can do to assist.

The BC Wildfire Services team has suggested some of the following mitigation strategies:

– move Fire wood 10m from home

– cut long grass around homes and wood fences

– remove building materials from around homes and out buildings (sheds, etc)

– remove cedar hedges and juniper bushes inside of 10m of the homes as they contain highly volatile oils

– bring in lawn furniture off decks

– clean roofs and gutters from debris

Additional measures can be found at FireSmart BC and PreparedBC
