District Appoints Deputy Fire Chief

The District of Sparwood is pleased to announce that Sheldon Tennant has joined the team in the role of Deputy Fire Chief.

Sheldon, born and raised in Sparwood has been with the Fire Department for over 18 years and has climbed the ranks into the role of a Captain. He is passionate about the community and working hard to support his fellow firefighters in developing their skills to become the best they can be.  Having gained extensive experience through his role in the mining industry and as President of the East Kootenay Mines Industrial Safety Association, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge in emergency management, health and safety and leadership.

“I feel like it is important to give back to the community that has given me so much,” says Sheldon. “In this role, my main passion will be to ensure that we are prepared to handle any job we are tasked to do. When we are called out, the people we meet are usually having a bad day, so we owe it to them to be at our best. What excites me is having the opportunity to be part of the development of the next generation of officers in the department. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that come with the job, and I am proud to serve the community of Sparwood,” he says.

“We are glad to have Sheldon join us in this important role,” says Sparwood Mayor David Wilks. “Sheldon has proven himself to be a dedicated, respected, and knowledgeable firefighter. We are confident with his strong leadership skills, diverse experience, and acute knowledge of the community he will continue to elevate the team and support the exemplary service the department is known for providing.”
