Henry Volkmann Memorial Leisure Complex Closure

The District of Sparwood will be closing and suspending all activities at the Henry Volkmann Memorial Leisure Complex to the public as of Monday, March 16, until further notice. This includes the fitness centre, pool, curling rink, arena and all swimming lessons and classes. All special events taking place at the Leisure Centre within the near future, such as the Community Information and Registration Night, will also be cancelled until further notice.
The District of Sparwood is committed to doing our part to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 and as always, place the health, safety and wellbeing of employees and the public as our highest consideration.

Refunds will be provided for pre-scheduled classes and bookings but please have patience as we try to process these via phone and email and reach out to everyone who will be requiring refunds. In situations where refunds are not able to be processed electronically or over the phone, we will issue refunds upon re-opening of the facility.

The District of Sparwood Public Works Office, Fire Halls, and Main Office will be open as normal, but patrons are asked not to enter the facilities if you have been travelling out of the country, have a new cough, fever or shortness of breath or have been in contact with people experiencing those symptoms. Alternatively, we would be happy to assist you via email or over the phone.

“Mayor and Council understand the seriousness of this decision. The safety of our employees is paramount. We will continue to monitor this unprecedented virus and will make every effort to reopen the Leisure Complex as soon as possible,” says Sparwood Mayor David Wilks.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.
