Labourer, Casual On-Call

The District of Sparwood has an excellent employment opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to join the Community Services team in the role of Casual, On-Call Labourer. Reporting to the Chief Facility Maintenance Operator, the Casual Labourer provides support to the maintenance team by performing a variety of tasks related to the cleaning and maintenance of the District Leisure Services buildings, arena, parks, playgrounds, arena and other facilities. 

The core job duties include:

  • Provides custodial and maintenance services within, but not limited to, the Leisure Centre Complex
  • Assists with the set up and take down of furniture and equipment for facility events
  • Assists with and conducts park inspections, cleaning, repairs and maintenance
  • Operates District equipment as trained and in a safe manner including but not limited to trucks, tractors, mowers, ice resurfacer, etc.
  • Provides exemplary customer service, including supervision of the arena complex and ice surface during events and activities

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Refrigeration Safety Awareness Certificate or Higher Certification – an asset
  • Current Basic First Aid & WHIMIS certification
  • Some basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical and maintenance skills and knowledge
  • Demonstrable customer service skills and conflict resolution
  • Ability to perform custodial services with a high degree of care and diligence
  • Has the ability to work well both independently and as part of team
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, undertake labour intensive tasks, work in awkward positions and confined spaces, frequently stand and walk throughout the day and work in inclement weather

Salary: This position is a unionized position under CUPE local 2698. The 2024 hourly wage rate is $30/hour as per the current Collective Agreement.
