This month, I want to reflect on the importance of volunteerism and express my gratitude to each of you who give your time and energy to make our community a better place. Whether you are coaching a local sports team, helping organize events, or assisting our most vulnerable residents, these acts of service fill critical gaps and ensure that our community remains a diverse and supportive place for all.
I am continually inspired by the dedication and generosity of our residents. Volunteerism is the heart of our community and it is thanks to the countless hours of time from volunteers and the work done by volunteer organizations that help make Sparwood the place it is today.
Volunteering is a two-way street. While it enriches the lives of those who receive help, it also offers immense rewards to those who give. Through volunteering, residents gain new skills, build confidence and develop a deeper connection to our community. The impact of volunteerism extends far beyond the immediate tasks. Acts of kindness inspire others to get involved, creating a ripple effect that spreads positivity throughout our community. This collective spirit of generosity is what makes Sparwood truly exceptional.
On behalf of Council I want to extend a sincere thank-you to all our volunteers. Your contributions do not go unnoticed and we are incredibly fortunate to have such compassionate and committed residents. Please know that your efforts make difference and we appreciate everything you do.
This month also marks the launch of our Volunteer Organization Nomination period. We welcome all residents to nominate a volunteer organization who:
– Demonstrates initiative, leadership, and creativity in their service to the community
– Inspires others to engage in volunteer service
– Improves the overall quality of life for residents and the Community as a whole
You can nominate a volunteer organization by filling out the form found here https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2025VolunteerOrg or picking up a paper copy from the Sparwood Leisure Centre, located at 367 Pine Avenue.
Nominated organizations will be highlighted on the District’s social media pages and website https://sparwood.ca/parks-recreation-culture/volunteer-organizations .
As we move forward, I encourage everyone to consider how they can contribute to the spirit of volunteerism. Together, we can continue to build a community that we are all proud to call home.
