Mayor’s Monthly Editorial, March 2025

Our community is evolving and so is the way we communicate. Mayor and Council are excited to introduce two major advancements designed to enhance communication and accessibility: a newly refreshed municipal website and the launch of the District of Sparwood app.

Our website, which is the centralized hub of information, has been redesigned with user experience at the forefront. It offers a streamlined, modern interface with improved navigation, faster load times and mobile-friendly accessibility. Whether you’re looking to pay a utility bill, explore upcoming events, or learn about municipal services, the updated platform ensures a seamless and efficient experience making it easier to find the news and information you are looking for. Notifications will appear at the top of the homepage, keeping you informed about key updates, such as engagement opportunities and upcoming Council and Committee meetings.

Complementing the website refresh is our brand-new community app, a one-stop resource for local news, municipal announcements, and community updates. The app will be free and available for iOS and Android. It will allow you to receive instant emergency notifications and will bring essential information and real-time updates right to your fingertips making it easier than ever to find out what’s happening in the community.

These digital advancements support our ongoing commitment to transparency, accessibility and community engagement. Despite our efforts, everyone has a role to play in fostering a more informed society. By committing to responsible news consumption, we can contribute to a culture that values facts over fiction. Encouraging friends and family to seek reliable sources and engage in healthy skepticism is essential in curbing the spread of misinformation.  In an age where misinformation is a serious threat, truth-seeking should be our collective responsibility. The consequences of believing and spreading rumors can be severe, leading to unnecessary panic, division, and even harm. By prioritizing credible sources such as news and information posted directly by the District on municipally managed platforms and by questioning unverified claims, you can ensure you are correctly informed.

Watch for the website refresh to take place the first week of April and the release of the app in the weeks to follow. Updates will be provided on our social media platforms and www.sparwood.ca.As always, we welcome your feedback and look forward to continuing to enhance how we serve you.
