The District of Sparwood has an excellent employment opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to join the Community Services team in the role of Recreation Maintenance Level 1 or 2. Reporting to the Recreation Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent works as part of a cooperative team and performs a variety of tasks requiring agility and physical effort related to the operation and maintenance of the Sparwood Leisure Centre including; maintenance of facility building systems, monitoring of arena/pool plant operations, general facility maintenance and custodial services.
The Core Job Duties Include:
- Provides custodial services related to the care and maintenance of District facilities, including snow removal
- Monitors and maintains arena physical plant and related systems
- Monitors and maintains pool filtration and heating systems
- Inspects, conducts repairs and maintains outdoor recreation facilities and related outdoor spaces such as; parks, sport fields, turf, trails, ice surfaces, fencing, gardens and playground equipment
- Checks and maintains vehicles and equipment used in the department
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Qualifications & Certification:
Maintenance 1
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Experience maintaining building and facility mechanical systems
- Basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical and maintenance skills and knowledge
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
Maintenance 2
(Above Maintenance 1 qualifications + below certifications)
- 3-4 years combination of carpentry and plumbing experience would be considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
- Refrigeration Operator Certification
- Pool Operator Level I
- Arena Ice Maker I or higher
- Building Service Worker Level II
- Park and Sport Field Level I
- Playground Safety Inspection Certificate
Salary: This position is a unionized position under CUPE local 2698. The hourly wage rate is $38.23 (for Recreation Maintenance Level 1) or $40.14 (for Recreation Maintenance Level 2) as per the current Collective Agreement.

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Community Services and reporting to the Recreation Maintenance Supervisor, Recreation Maintenance I performs a variety of general and specific labour type tasks requiring agility and physical effort related to the operation and maintenance of the Sparwood Leisure Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for janitorial services, facility maintenance, maintaining the arena physical plant, leisure pool filtration systems, parks and other recreation facilities including carpentry and plumbing work. Other duties include installing and maintaining ice surfaces, general work on HVAC and DHW supply systems, horticultural work, servicing and maintaining sports fields, walking trails and related recreation areas and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for shoveling and removing snow; inspecting facilities and equipment; preparing required reports and performing other duties as assigned.
Primary Duties

Recreation Maintenance II completes carpentry and plumbing projects and assists with maintaining other District facilities.
