The District of Sparwood has activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in support of the government of British Columbia’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
The EOC has been established to provide a central contact point of information and will allow the District to coordinate communication with many important external agencies, as well as plan and work collaboratively with local, regional and provincial efforts that are underway.
“As always, the District of Sparwood is committed to ensuring the health and safety of the community is our top priority. Establishing the EOC will allow us to provide focused efforts to our communication, planning and responses to the situation. The District of Sparwood EOC is currently a Level 1, which is the lowest level. We want to stress the importance of the situation and following the recommended guidelines from the Provincial and Federal government and health agencies, but also to not panic, to look out for your families, your neighbours and your community,” says Sparwood Mayor David Wilks.
With the formation of the EOC, the District of Sparwood will be posting regular updates on the Website and Facebook page in conjunction with the Regional District of East Kootenay Emergency Operations Centre. Public access to municipal offices is restricted, but staff is happy to help via phone or email at 250.425.6271 or sparwood@sparwood.ca.
