The District of Sparwood is pleased to announce the launch of its new municipal website, which is focused on a minimalistic, user friendly, and functional approach.
The website redevelopment, which was led by consultants Fresh Inc., has addressed the deficiencies and delays that naturally occur as technology and organizations change. In particular, the concentration was on improving functionality and performance. “We are really proud to present this website to the community,” says Sparwood Mayor David Wilks. “Council often heard from residents that there were concerns with navigation, content overload, speed, and searchability within our old website, causing frustration, dissatisfaction, and a reduction in site use. In response, non-essential content was limited and the site restructured to facilitate quick access to the things residents look for the most. Now, more than ever there is an emphasis on digital communication and information sharing, so the timing has worked well. We are hopeful that this redesign will allow residents to more effectively use the site, and that it will become the focus for all things Sparwood.”
The website will still feature many of the aspects that residents have come to know and enjoy such as the digital Recreation Newsletter, Council Facts, and the Service Request Form. It will also incorporate some additional functionality, such as the Events Calendar, which will now allow user groups and organizations to submit their event and digital media easily within the site, allowing District Staff to seamlessly incorporate it into the calendar. “An events calendar, or lack thereof, was one of the priority areas of concern for Council,” says Mayor Wilks. “We know that it is vital within a community for residents to be able to connect with one another through special events and activities. Now, with this calendar, we can still see municipal events and meetings, but we can also incorporate charitable, educational, cultural or recreational events taking place within the municipal boundary of the District of Sparwood when submitted by a not-for-profit group, organization or a non-income generating community group. This calendar has the potential to be a really great tool for communication and connection. As we creep out of COVID-19 restrictions, and resume some normalcy, we strongly encourage user groups to access and submit their events to the calendar.” In conjunction with the launch of the new website the District of Sparwood has initiated a Website Scavenger Hunt. This contest will navigate users through the new site, noting special items or features, and culminating with sending their responses via the “Contact Us Form” for a chance to win some Sparwood swag.
