The District of Sparwood is pleased to introduce the Volunteer Organization Achievement Award – a new initiative intended to recognize and commend local volunteer groups. The award, which seeks nominations from the community will culminate in a recognition ceremony during the annual Volunteer Appreciation Day Celebration, taking place on May 3, 2020 with a $500 donation award being presented to one group.
The District is inviting nominations of local organizations who demonstrate initiative, leadership and creativity in their service to the community, inspire others to volunteer and improve the overall quality of life for Sparwood residents. Nominations are being accepted until March 15, 2020. To be selected, nominated groups must provide direct support or service in Sparwood, be a volunteer organization based in the District of Sparwood or the Elk Valley and have provided support or services in Sparwood for a period longer than one year.
“We are really happy to launch this new award,” says Sparwood Mayor David Wilks. “We have numerous long standing, committed volunteer organizations who make a huge impact on the quality of life for Sparwood residents. All of our volunteer groups provide hours of time, services and their talents to support a wide range of social, cultural and recreational activities that people have come to know and love – and we are very thankful for their commitment to the community.”
Residents of Sparwood are encouraged to fill out a nomination form which can be found at www.sparwood.ca/volunteering. Hardcopy forms can be picked up and dropped off at the District of Sparwood Main Office, located at 136 Spruce Avenue or the Sparwood Leisure Centre, located at 367 Pine Avenue. Forms can also be emailed to sparwood@sparwood.ca or mailed to Box 520, Sparwood BC, V0B 2G0.
