Sparwood Winter Fest Makes A Comeback

The District of Sparwood is looking forward to fun with the comeback of Winter Fest, now renewed and revitalized after being placed on hold due to the pandemic. This celebration, scheduled for February 18 and 19, will see family friendly events and activities for all ages and interests.

With the District’s investment into community celebrations with the creation of the new Events and Volunteer Coordinator role, Winter Fest is back and bigger than ever. Over the course of two days, residents can expect to see many activities focused around the Sparwood Leisure Centre and adjacent grounds. Kicking off the weekend will be a community bonfire hosted by the Sparwood Fire Department, a BBQ hosted by the Sparwood Lions Club, cupcakes, giveaways, and an abundance of activities and games. The afternoon will be filled with entertainment highlighted by live music from the Hark Raving Sirens’ and refreshment gardens for those 19+. Sunday events will begin with an afternoon guided snowshoe, glow face painting, skating, and cupcakes and crafts in the arena concourse.

“We are very excited to welcome everyone to Winter Fest,” says Sparwood Mayor David Wilks. “It is really important for Council to see our community get back to where we were pre-pandemic, gathering and celebrating with events such as this. Winter Fest is especially significant, as long, dark winter days can create struggles for some to get outdoors, be active, and connect with people, so the benefits of community events span far greater than just moments of fun. Winter Fest is the first community event organized by Jennifer Hegedus, the Events and Volunteer Coordinator in collaboration with the Community Services team. I encourage anyone who is interested in hosting a community event or volunteering, to connect with Jennifer to discuss opportunities. Winter Fest is a wonderful way to start the new year, and we look forward to more events like this to come.”
