Regular Part-Time Cashier, Weekend

The District of Sparwood has an excellent employment opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to assume the role of Regular Part-Time Cashier (Weekend). The position standard work schedule will consist of three consecutive days, Friday to Sunday, for a minimum of 7 hours each day. Reporting to the Community Services Assistant, the Cashier provides general office, clerical, and cashiering duties at the Sparwood Leisure Centre. They complete program registrations and facility bookings, receive cash payments for facility use and admissions, processes deposits and cash reports, prepare and assists with the development of advertising and promotional materials. The Cashier provides exemplary customer service and is well versed in facility policies, procedures, programs, and events.

The core job duties include:

  • Performs receptionist duties including answering and responding to telephone and/or in person enquiries, etc.
  • Processes facility bookings and/or cancellations
  • Registers participants into programs
  • Receives admissions/user payments
  • Processes daily deposits, cash reports and reconciliations
  • Maintains and updates RecDesk & electronic sign
  • Prepares correspondence, maintains spread sheets and databases etc.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports
  • Develops, edits, proofreads and maintains promotional materials

Job Requirements:

  • Grade 12 supplemented by relevant courses and/or experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe and Canva
  • Exemplary customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • Demonstrable excellent business writing skills and ability
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written

This position is a unionized position under CUPE local 2698. The hourly wage rate is $29.86/hour as per the current Collective Agreement. The weekend regular, part-time employee is one that works 20 hours or more each week. Hours of work for this role generally range between Friday to Sunday but are subject to variation and change.

As part of the interview process, shortlisted candidates will be required to participate in a practical portion of the interview at the District of Sparwood Leisure Centre. Qualified applicants who are offered and accept, the role may be required to complete a satisfactory pre-employment background check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian criminal record check, an employment verification and/or an education and accreditation verification and a clean drivers abstract.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs receptionist duties including answering and responding to telephone, and/or in-person enquiries, complaints etc.

  • Prepares and assists with the set-up of programs, and facilities using recreation software
  • Performs such back-up functions within the recreation center office as assigned
  • All persons employed by the District of Sparwood will be required to assist the municipality in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions

  • The weekend regular part-time employee is one that works 20  hours or more each week. Hours of work generally range between Friday to Sunday but may be subject to variation and change.
