UPDATED – Evacuation Alert

EVACUATION ALERT

July 24, 2023, at 18:30 hours

An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the District of Sparwood due to wildfire threat and the potential danger to life and health for the residents within the District of Sparwood as outlined on the attached map for the following properties:

  • All properties on Upper and Lower Matevic Road
  • All properties in Sparwood Heights, South of Sparwood Heights Drive

The purpose of this Alert is to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property if necessary.  You will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

While the Evacuation Alert is in place, you should prepare for a possible Evacuation Order by:

  • Locating all household members and designate a meeting point outside the evacuation area.
  • Have a ‘To-Go Bag’ packed and ready to leave at a moment’s notice, with essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, money, clothing, personal care items, important documents (e.g. insurance, banking and mortgage info), valuables and keepsakes.
  • Preparing to move any disabled persons and/or children.
  • Pre-register all household members on the provincial Evacuee Registration & Assistance (ERA) Tool at http://ess.gov.bc.ca
  • Moving pets and livestock to a safe area.
  • Making transportation arrangements for your household members in the event of an Evacuation Order.
  • Arranging accommodation for your family if possible. In the event of an evacuation, Reception Centres will be opened if required.
  • Monitoring news sources for information on Evacuation Orders and locations of Reception Centres.
  • Register for the Regional Evacuation Notification System on the Regional District of East Kootenay’s website at www.rdek.bc.ca – this will ensure that we can reach you rapidly if the evacuation status changes.
