Making Payments for Municipal Services

In Person
You can pay for municipal services by cash, cheque (made payable to “District of Sparwood”) or debit card (Interac) at the District Office located at 136 Spruce Avenue.
Online via Credit or Debit Card
The District of Sparwood is now accepting online invoice payments with select credit cards through the secure OptionPay System (with applicable third party fees). Payments for certain District services may be paid by credit card online now in addition to the previously offered option to pay directly through internet banking. Some services must be paid in person at Municipal Hall as the invoice may need to be customized to your unique needs for service.

What is Option Pay?
OptionPay is a payment card system the District of Sparwood uses for its online credit card transactions. You can find out more information about OptionPay by visiting their website here.
Is there an added fee for using OptionPay to pay my District of Sparwood bills with my credit card?
Yes. All transactions carried out through OptionPay follow a tiered fee schedule, starting at a minimum fee of $2.00. To see the full fee schedule for using this payment option, please visit their fee schedule here.
Why is there an added fee to pay with credit card?
The fees are administered through the OptionPay program for the use of their service and not through the District of Sparwood.
Is my credit card information secure with this program?
OptionPay provides information on their security measures here. Please note that the District of Sparwood takes no responsibility for, and accepts no liability, in the event of security breaches, technical difficulties, or other issues that may arise from your use of OptionPay. All users accept responsibility for their use of this service and do so at their own risk.
Payment Drop Box
The drop box located at the main entrance of the District office located at 136 Spruce Avenue. Place your cheque in an envelope. Please do not put cash in the mailbox.
By Mail
You can pay for municipal services by cheque (made payable to “District of Sparwood”) mailed to the District of Sparwood, Box 520, Sparwood, BC, V0B 2G0. Post marks on envelopes are not acceptable as the payment received date so please allow time for delivery and processing.
Online or Telephone Banking
You can pay your property taxes and utilities using online or telephone banking services through your Financial Institution. For taxes, you will need your 11 digit roll number (including the 337 jurisdiction number with no spaces or punctuation) to set up the District of Sparwood as an entity to make a payment. For utilities, you will need your full account number (no spaces or punctuation) to set up the District of Sparwood as an entity to make a payment. When searching for payee on your bank’s website enter “Sparwood” or “District” if Sparwood does not give good results. Please be sure to allow sufficient time (a minimum of three business days) for your payment to be processed so that the District receives your payment by the due date. Please contact your financial institution for more information.
Post-dated Cheque
You can pay your taxes with a cheque post dated to the tax due date. The payment is not cashed at your bank until the date of the cheque. Cheques must be received by the tax due date in order to avoid the 10% penalty. Post marks on envelopes are not acceptable as the payment received date, so please allow time for delivery and processing. Post dated cheques should be identified in some way (highlight the date) so that they are not inadvertently processed as a current item.

Accounts Receivable
Building / Development Permits
In order to make a payment for your building or development permit, please include your PERMIT NUMBER. Your permit number will depend on what type of permit you have applied for and will either be available on your CloudPermit file, or provided to you by a District staff member.
Please contact us if you have any questions prior to paying your permit, or if you require a permit number and amount to make your payment.
Business Licence Payments
In order to make a payment for your business licence, please include the 7-DIGIT CUSTOMER NUMBER. This can be found on your business licence invoice. Please note: If you are also purchasing an Inter-Community business licence, the fee for this is in addition to the Sparwood business licence fee.

Pet Licences
To renew your pet license, please provide us with your information and the name of your pet. If you are applying for a pet license for the first time, please visit our Animals and Pets page for further information.
Property Tax Payments
You will be asked for your JURISDICTION and ROLL NUMBER when entering payment information for your property taxes. This can be found on your property tax notice and is 12 digits in length (including the .)
Utility Payments
In order to pay your Utility bill, you need the UTILITY ACCOUNT NUMBER. This can be found on your utility bill and is 14 digits in length.
