Aquatic Programs
The Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Program swimming lessons promote fitness and water safety, while providing lifelong swimming skills, all in a fun environment that celebrates personal success.

Swim Lessons
Parent & Tot– Sing & Splash
Ages 4 – 36 months. This class combines Lifesaving Society’s Jellyfish, Goldfish, and Seahorse lessons that are designed to have parents in the water with their child. Parents learn to teach their child about the water through play and imitation.
Preschool Swim Lessons
5 Levels for children 3 – 5 years old. Progressive lessons based on the successful completion of all performance criteria. Lessons are engaging and fun, through songs and activities.
Swim Kids Swimmer 1-6
6 Level Program for children ages 5+ based on progression of skills and knowledge. Children learn to swim, be fit, and stay safe in a fun environment that promotes achieving a personal best and celebrates personal success.
Junior Lifeguard (Rookie, Ranger, Star)
For ages 8 – 12 years and offers a unique aquatic alternative for those kids who really love the water. Participants work through the Canadian Swim Patrol Program (CSP) three level Pre-Bronze award program.
Advanced Swim Lessons
Bronze Star
This is a Pre-Bronze Medallion training program and excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. In Bronze Star participants develop problem solving and decision making skills as individuals and as partners. They develop water smart confidence and basic lifesaving skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard. Pocket mask required. Prerequisites: Ability to swim 400 m, Recommended 12 yrs+.
Bronze Medallion
Teaches an understanding of lifesaving principles. Rescuers deal with conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Participants also develop stroke efficiency and endurance in timed swims. Includes CPR-A. Pocket mask required. Prerequisite: Bronze Star or 13 years of age or older.
Bronze Cross
This award is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safe supervision. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs, including National Lifeguard Service (NLS). Includes CPR-C. Pocket mask required. Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion. This course is a minimum prerequisite for an Assistant Lifeguard.
National Lifeguard Pool Certification
National Lifeguard is Canada’s only nationally recognized lifeguard certification program. National Lifeguard is a legal certificate for lifeguarding throughout the country. Prerequisites: Minimum 15 years of age, Bronze Cross certification and Standard First Aid certification (need not be current).
Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
This course prepares candidates to instruct the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life programs. Candidates focus on strategies to introduce and develop fitness activities, skills, water safety and swimming skills in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Preschool, Swim Kids, and advanced programs. Prerequisite: 15 years or older, Emergency First Aid or equivalent (need not be current).
CPR-B & CPR-C
CPR-B provides training for the non-professional rescuer and CPR-C is the recognized course for health care professionals and lifeguards.
Standard First Aid
Train’s rescuers in the skills and knowledge needed to assess and provide basic life support to patients with airway, breathing, or circulatory emergencies.

Play School
The programs we offer are designed to develop social, emotional, intellectual, and physical skills needed for future success. Child/Youth

Youth Action Sparwood (YAS)
YAS is overseen by the Youth Advisory Commission, mandated to engage and empower local youth (12-18 years) in the development and oversite of a local Youth Network, with the goal of providing relevant programs, projects, and events for Sparwood youth. YAS develops programs, facilitates and funds projects, and advocates for a teen-friendly community.
YAS is active in the community and has funded and facilitated youth identified priorities such as the archery range and the outdoor ping pong table. Everything YAS does is youth directed and community supported.
